Don’t let perfect stop you doing good
Reflecting on Deep Time
THIS SUNDAY, 7PM
Practitioner Mathilde Braddock is leading us in a reflection on deep time, trying to conceptualise just how long the Earth has been here, how humans have affected it, and how we can maybe affect it a little less.
Beltane Service
NEXT SUNDAY, 7PM
Last year James Canon joined us to hold a Beltane service. Beltane being the Sabbat honouring the transition from Spring to Summer, with themes of passion, abundance, growth, love and creativity - and often loads of fire. This year he’s back by popular demand!
Amos Trust Big Give
The Amos Trust have an appeal on till the 29th (next Wednesday) where any donations will be matched (doubled!). Money will go to support their climate fellowship, a network of young female climate activists and land defenders from Mexico and Central America, reclaiming land, reviving Indigenous knowledge and challenging those who put profit before the planet. You can find out more and donate here.
They’re also hosting an event with an amazing activist this Sunday in Bristol, 4:30pm - 6pm, details here.
Being With Training
Some of us are not the biggest fan of Alpha. We’re exploring other options, one of which is the Being With course. Cotham are kindly offering to fund 3 people to go on the training course to become Being With leaders, which would mean you were qualified to lead an ‘Exploring Faith’ course that we could then run. If you’re interested in doing that, please let me know! The dates for the next course are the 18th, 20th, and 25th May at 7.00pm.
Don’t let perfect stop you doing good
Often we want so desperately to be perfect, that we stop ourselves being good.
Do you ever get so overwhelmed by the need to make the definitely right choice that you make no choice at all?
Or so daunted by how much good or charitable work other people are doing, and how you could never achieve that, that you don’t anything?
It’s so easy to presume everyone around us is judging us against a perfect idealised standard. But other people generally aren’t thinking about what you ‘could’ be. They only see what you are.
Anything worth doing is worth doing badly. What’s that famous adage? The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, the second best time is today.
Pick something kind or good this week that you wouldn’t normally do, and phone it in. Do it, averagely. With minimal effort or application. But do it. I’ll see you on Sunday.
Love,
Andy
