Steering Service
NEXT SUNDAY, 7PM
We have the first of our quarterly steering services, where we make decisions as a community on how we want Foundation to look.
This time we’re going to be thinking about what Foundation is to us, getting a tour of how to set up and pack down (a hot topic in the WhatsApp group) and thinking more practically about how we want to do our social engagement.
Change of dates!
Usually we have a break over Easter weekend. But we’ve decided to switch it up this year, so we will have a service on Easter Sunday, 5th April! And then we’re going to take the break on the 12th of April, so there will be no service then.
It isn’t a sin
As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him….”
John 9: 1-3 NIV
It was common belief in Jesus’ time that hardship was God’s punishment for wrongdoing. Jesus’ makes it clear that isn’t true. And yet many churches even now have lingering echoes of that theology.
Do you have any subconscious beliefs that you have earnt the painful things that happen to you? That you deserve punishment somehow?
God makes it abundantly clear that we all deserve love, softness and grace. That trials and tribulations are not directly linked to who is good or bad. Just read the Psalms, or Job!
But when you’re in the ditches, that’s when divine love can do it’s best work.
How can you turn the parts of yourself that you shun, into ways to do the works of God? How can we turn our loved ones worst days into the days that were most filled with love?
Let’s get to work this week. Enjoy the sunshine and I’ll see you on Sunday.
Love,
Andy
